A weekend is for finding my ‘self’.

“The most common ego identifications have to do with possessions, the work you do, social status and recognition, knowledge and education, physical appearance, special abilities, relationships, personal and family history, belief systems, and often political, nationalistic, racial, religious, and other collective identifications. None of these is you.”

- Eckhart Tolle, best-selling author and speaker.

This weekend is for finding my ‘self’. I feel like I have been transported back to the 70′s when I write that statement. Everyone was finding themselves and maybe we should try to find our selves again?

After a month of scattered chaotic emotions and challenging situations, you (I) have no option but to surrender, take a hard look at what is going on in your (my) life and find the stillness. I don’t mean sit and contemplate in deep meditation, no, I mean be aware of the thoughts and feelings when they bubble to the surface and see them from a different perspective. Be unattached just the observer and insight is found. I find walking in the woods or painting to be my place where stillness is found most in my life. Yours may be found washing the dishes or housecleaning in general, playing with your kids, conversing with friends, even going shopping. What I mean is be aware in the moments and see, if you can, what the universe is so desperately trying to tell you. It always is sending you little messages but we become so driven by the ego we never see, hear or believe the messenger.

My passed loved ones. Still stop in for a visit.

My passed loved ones.
Still stop in for a visit.

Maybe your life is like my own and have had one too many losses, both in possessions (financially) in relationships and in the deaths (I prefer passing) of those that knew your heart all to well. I have experienced much living and with each one I have found a deeper compassion for people nature and life in all the yucky-ness. Though I will tell you I am tired today. I need something to work for my greater good. I need the Universe to give me a hug today. Problem though is I am the one stopping any and all of it from happening. So that is why I am taking the weekend (maybe the week) to find myself. When I reconnect with the Me, I then reconnect to the Divine Universe and to my very own greater good.

Quote For Today. Or Two.

“Any time I am in resentment, I am not taking care of myself. I am blaming someone else for something I need to do.”

“The higher the expectations, the lower the serenity. I try to keep my boundaries high, my expectations low, and my heart open.”

A Tuesday thought to treasure.

“Get on with your own creative life. Ideas are free. They don’t cost you a thing. You can live in the world of thought all the days of your life and never go broke.

You will also die unfulfilled, because an idea that never incarnates, that never becomes physical and grounded in this world, will eventually feel like the most painful burden you ever had to carry – one that you can never put down.

People who have had near death experiences report that there is indeed a life review that happens upon our death, and that a part of that life review is to make note of what could have been in our lives had we chose otherwise.

Falling into that category are all the creative opportunities the universe provided for us that we let fall by the wayside because our fears carried more authority within us than our faith.

Trust in the life support system that is inherent in your creative spirit. You will draw to yourself all that you need as you need it, but you must first be willing to risk it all.”

New fairy garden house has been discovered in shop.

It amazes me how different each house develops into its own personality and how uniquely different each one is. This fairy house is a whimsical delightful woodland fun fairy house. I created this house while feeling a little stressed and kept thinking to myself I wish I could find a place to relax. Poof! A relaxing sky gazing, take a nap, and relax woodland fairy garden house is created. I wonder if it was me who felt stressed or maybe it was Briar, my fairy buddy, feeling the strain of energy gone a muck in this realm. She knows I worry so she will never tell.

As I created this twig dwelling of branches and mosses and dried natural elements, a story formed. A sweet little wisp of a thing with larkspur blue and glints of gold-colored eyes, mocha creamy skin and dark jet black ribbons twisted through her mane of dark curls. She wears a vibrant royal purple tunic laid over suede charcoal gray leggings. She is barefooted and her wings shimmer with blues and violets. She does not dart about but moves with a fluid motion as a dancer on light beams. She loves to lounge on the chaise and gaze at the clouds overhead as the day changes into night in the between space she knows so well. The clouds fill with soft hues of colors and fade into the charcoal gray of her clothing. Stars fill the space in the void above and the world prepares to sleep once more. Her name is Jasmine Moonbeam.

Would you like to share your natural surroundings with her then please visit my shop at Laurie Rohner Studio.

Saying good-bye to my favorite painted furniture piece, ever.

Today I finalized the sale of one of my custom painted furniture pieces to a very lovely person and will have to say good-bye soon. I have sold many works of mine but a few I enjoyed tremendously. I tend to look at them as you would a child. It is the curse of being an artist because although you may create them or dare say give birth to them, there eventually comes a time to let them go. Today was that time for this wonderful trunk that had inspired so many other creations to find its wings and go to another home. I know this person is going to cherish it and it is why it needed to go. I realized in a quiet moment, that is my gift to the world as an artist to inspire, to share the beauty of nature, to make someones room shine and by doing so make that person smile and feel good about themselves. I said today to this beautiful person my intention, why I do my creative work is to bring joy to people.

Painted Cottage Trunk from my Painted Furniture Collection at laurierohner.com

I will certainly miss this work of painted furniture but then again I can build myself something new and wonderful to takes its place. I would say that is the upside to also being an artist. These words I live by ‘If you can imagine it, you can achieve it. Then again does not this creating thing apply to any profession or work of any kind?

Now I hope the postal service gets it there in one piece. I guess the angels and fairies will put in a few hours extra.

Busy Signal.

“I keep the telephone of my mind open to peace, harmony, health, love, and abundance. Then, whenever doubt, anxiety, or fear try to call me, they will keep getting a busy signal-and soon they’ll forget my number.”

- Edith Armstrong, author.

Old Telephone at Hotel Cantayo Nasca, Peru, May 2005

It is a funny thing happening in my life now. I have done just this and it seems like Spirit is approving. Each morning I have made the effort to align me (soul) to the vibration harmony love peace of that is and not what I want. As everyone knows it is hard to follow on a daily basis yet when you do what a ride. I have maybe for the very first time surrendered completely to Spirit and to God. I love the imagery of the telephone. It works for me, I had to share.

Have a love filled day.

New two story woodland fairy house.

This is a new larger fairy house I have been working on an I love the way this has been created. It started as a smaller one room house and then I saw how I liked the way the center post looked. I had a bunch of twigs and with a wire attached it to the post. Once the roof took shape the rest just fell together. It was a client that gave me the idea for a bath (thank you) and since I had a broken teacup in it went. The handle formed a hook for clothes or a towel. Underneath a lounging bed and a table and chairs is on the side. Decorated with sea glass shells moss and anything I could fit has shaped this enchanted woodland fairy house.

Illuminating the Paradox

Wordpress blog

From post by Waiting for the Karma Truck.

This wonderful statement made by His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama The Paradox of Our Age is filled with inspiring truths. Though many might see only the down side of the paradox I like to feel His Holiness is focused on the up side of our lives. I read a fabulous post by Waiting for the Karma Truck titled “Make It Better”. I agree with her take in the world. This is my view of Paradox of Our Age.

What I find interesting is I have never seen this paradox until this morning when I read her great post. The sense and feel when thinking about these words is there is much darkness seeping into the lives of so many. Whether you see it as ego, evil or demonic, the theory is we are walking on the wrong side of the light. The divine essence of who we are is always with us and it is our free will to choose a different path. When we see our self as separate from the Divine, the Creator, God we walk in this paradox.

This past week in the United States has been troublesome for me. I believe this country is being pulled apart by the manipulated lies of the administration and the mass media. Bear with me this is not vote for (insert candidate) instead it is a call to action to allow your true self, spiritual part of you to guide you out of darkness. I believe in the darkest of times Spirit, God, will intervene. I pray every day through meditation sending out love and light to all but especially to those in darkness. Why? Not for my own self but for this beautiful world that the Creator gave to us to thrive and love and grow in. For me if Romney wins our elections or if Obama it is what is needed for the world to learn, even if I might not agree. By doing this I add my energy to the many other light workers that when and if needed what needs to be can.

It is easy to bring light into a dark room by switching on a light and in our lives it is also that simple. Every day starts with not knowing what my hands will create. Will it be magic or a learning experience? Will I have fun or torment myself? Will a challenge derail me or will it push me into another direction? Will life flow freely or will my ego block my way? on and on down many different paths with all but one outcome, walking the path back, the journey home to God. Surrender the control and all things will be illuminated and the Paradox of Our Age dissolves.

What side do you walk on? Are you a light worker? Ask the questions and decide.

Besides Fairy Houses I Paint Landscapes.

You may not know this but I am a painter of landscapes, mostly forest scenes where I imagine fairies playing about the branches and trees. Well they do really play in nature around us. Every artist will tell you paint or create what you love, I love the natural world and am the most at home in the forest, enchanted or otherwise. The landscape below is a scene from my wooded property in Vermont. It was a spot where a large old pine fell and as nature takes back the giant tree sunlight is allowed down into the forest. As the sunlight filters down many new plants and tree saplings take root and start to grow. The fairies are nature’s helpers and care for all things in the natural world. We may not see them but they still exist working and playing and being a little mischievous to those choosing not to believe.  I am the most at home among the trees and woodland flowers and therefore paint what I love.

Birch Trees in Forest is an original landscape oil painting. Moss greens warm browns and white birch bark glisten in the sunlight as you stand looking at a road traveled less. I can see it hanging on a wall with a shabby chic white frame in a contemporary farmhouse cottage room. Would you need anything else?

I would take this path each day with the boys my Standard Poodles on our daily hikes through my property. I used soft shades of greens and browns and blues to give a peacefulness to my painting. While you gaze at the birches you can almost smell the sweet scent of the ferns drifting in the warm breeze.

Measures: 24″H x 24″W unframed.
The sides are painted and it is ready to hang.
