Nature does not hurry at Between The Weeds.

Nature does not hurry, yet everything is accomplished. Lao Tzu

Today at Between The Weeds I would like to share with you one of the new watercolor painting I have just completed. I had hoped to share this new work with you for Mother’s Day. Then one day I looked at this quote I have scribbled on my studio table and was reminded all things happen in their own time. A leaf does not worry about not opening because it is May it opens when it is ready. Slowly I am learning to work within the space where nature exists. We forget is even there.

This is an original watercolor of a woodland garden with bees and a hint of the sky. You can buy it at Between The Weeds or at Laurie Rohner Studio.

Get a fun whimsical feeling with my artwork? I love the happy little smile on my face when I look at my illustration of wildflowers and garden flowers with a few bees in watercolor and pen. There is a blush of blue sky hinting at a summer’s day. It is cheery and guarantees a better mood. These are flowers from my gardens in Vermont.

Very whimsical woodland garden botanical artwork for any style of home but can’t you see it framed in a shabby chic frame on a farmhouse wall?

Aiming for success with what you love to do.

“Don’t aim for success if you want it; just do what you love and believe in, and it will come naturally.”

- David Frost, is a British journalist, comedian, writer and media personality.

I am reinventing the way I am branding my shop Between The Weeds with an underscore to nature. I love to watch birds and animals (my dog in particular),their personalities shine if you just pay attention. I am learning to connect to that energy. These are two woodland bird original watercolors.

Remember I am offering free bunny cards with your order.

A nature watercolor original painting of a woodland bird titled Chickadee. I love the subtle tones against the dramatic hit of navy gray on the head and wing of this watercolor. This is a mamma bird getting ready to give her wee one a worm. This is original artwork by Laurie Rohner (not a print).

I love these birds Cedar Waxwings, when they make their way through my area. They love to eat the red berries on my holly so I took a bit of artistic licensing and removed the green leaves. I love the subtle tones of this watercolor. It is whimsical with the added painted border and there are subtle water marks of blue in the corners.

Replace Negative with Positive.

“If we understood the power of our thoughts, we would guard them more closely. If we understood the awesome power of our words, we would prefer silence to almost anything negative. In our thoughts and words we create our own weaknesses and our own strengths. Our limitations and joys begin in our hearts. We can always replace negative with positive.”

- Betty Eadie
, is a prominent American author of several books on near-death experiences.

Have I mentioned I am crazy about nature? I love the feel I get when I engage with nature. I love to watch birds. I find it fascinating to see them dangle from branches fearless knowing all they have to do is to stretch out their wings and fly. Nature sees no evil doings. The bird below certainly is not worried about the next berry to eat or how he or she looks to the other birdies. Birds soar among the clouds and they have so much joy. I think I would like to spend a day as a bird. But just a day.

I am working on a bunch of nature themed paintings. The bird below is available at my shop Between The Weeds. Please stop in. Check out all the wonderful nature related work I have for sale there.

Living life in reverse.

“Often people attempt to live their lives backwards: they try to have more things, or more money, in order to do more of what they want so they will be happier. The way it actually works is the reverse. You must first be who you really are, then, do what you need to do, in order to have what you want.”

– Margaret Young
, was a popular singer and comedienne in the United States in the 1920s.

I love this thought about living life in reverse. How many people today are still chasing their tails in circles only to discover they have nothing more than what they had when they started out on their journey. For myself I have been through a bunch of ups and downs making me question my thoughts and vision for business for personal and overall perspective about my life. If we live from our heart the path before us becomes clearer, illuminated by a source many think they know but only can intuitively know.

I have opened myself up to my heart and have listened carefully to the whispers from the Divine Goddess. What I discovered was my love to paint with watercolors. I love to paint renderings of nature, of serene forests and woodland creatures and flowers. This is a path I had abandoned some years ago because I did not have the belief in my work. I followed the money trail with a number of creative careers. The whispers though were always there and never quiet. Now I am venturing down this old path. I am nervous anxious and excited about my new direction.  I would be grateful if you would take a peek and see some of the small little watercolors I am working on at Between The Weeds.

The painting here is the first of a series I am starting using a new product for watercolor paintings which allows the artist to paint a watercolor and seal it on a framed board and no glass is needed. Fabulous invention.

Vermont Watercolor Landscape Painting Trees Woodland Fairy Forest

Vermont Watercolor Landscape Painting Trees Woodland Fairy Forest

Vermont scenic landscape watercolor painting is of the trees in a woodland fairy forest. This original is for sale by Laurie Rohner.

Once upon a time I lived in a wonderful place called Vermont, maybe you have been there? I remember the beautiful cool woods I would escape to on a warm summer day. You could smell the ferns in the air as a gentle breeze would kiss your face. This is where fairies live and earth magic is alive. Great painting to compliment your fairy houses.

Painted on a specially treated watercolor cradled panel.
My watercolor is painted much like an oil painting, but now this artwork is for sale without the need of glass, what a fabulous concept. Painting is on a special treated panel with a 2″ band of wood around the panel. The panel is protected with a fixative and ready to hang without the need of glass or glazing.

Palette: earth brown, deep green, golden yellow, leaf green, sky blue, bark brown, payne gray, sage green.

Watercolor on panel.

My soul’s companion.

“Looking at my life
I see that only Love
Has been my soul’s companion
From deep inside
My soul cries out:
Do not wait, surrender
For the sake of Love.”

- Rumi
, a lover, a poet, a mystic.

Through the great connection I have with nature it is my art which connects me to something deep inside. This is a watercolor botanical illustration of some of my favorite woodland wildflowers and you can buy it in my Studio Shop or at Between The Weeds.

Trust your inner knowing.

“You have to trust your inner knowing. If you have a clear mind and an open heart, you won’t have to search for direction. Direction will come to you.”

-Phil Jackson

I guess you can say this is what I have done. My heart has whispered to me to start something different and I have listened. I am working on new illustrations and inspiring art with words that lift you and open your self to your own knowing, your own heart.

Clarity found while painting Bee Balm a new work by Laurie Rohner.

This is one of my new watercolor illustrations I have been at work on called Bee Balm. Someone asked if I would do something illustrating garden flowers but she did not want it on a box or what not. She was thrilled with the illustration and received some nice compliments. This got my brain thinking. I am trying to please so many with so much in my life maybe I need to remove some of the excess. Much like the saying goes it is time to throw the dirty wash water out.

Maybe it is the day Dec. 21 which for me is a wonderful day and is a day I celebrate. Being of Celtic origin I am positive my ancestors did the same. It is the night of Winter Solstice. It is not the ending of the world but the beginning of a new life. It is when we can gestate what it is we expect from our selves and of others. We can take stock of what is needed to allow our lives to be more and complete. I believe in a Creator but I can also say it is probably not in the way religions dictate manipulate and exploit God. I have a close working relationship with the Spirit. I know within me is a power to overcome anything, it is in you too. We just have to sometimes step ever so slightly to the side and allow just a ray of light to shine in. What was confusion becomes clarity.

Bee Balm Flower

Watercolor Botanical Illustration

I just finished baking some cookies ( I love to bake) and made myself a cup of tea. As I nibbled my cookie and sipped my tea I thought how content I was realizing how present I had become. Was it age or was it just becoming who I see myself being. I think it is a bit of both.

When I sat down to work on the watercolor the other day it was 12:42 in the afternoon and when I stopped working it was darkening outside and the clock read 5:02. Where did the hours go? I was working with Spirit in what I call Creative Space and it is much like meditation for those who practice. What is it in your life that hours seem to disappear and time is non-existent? Think about the real you inside beyond the chatter of the mind. Can you see you? Is what you are doing even close to what you imagine your life? Today I see I am the magician, the high priestess and the page of cups (a little Tarot reference) entwined in a delightful whimsical dance and it is me who is stopping me from creating my life. The real trick is believing it and using the power within. It means allowing life to flow and fear to live elsewhere. It means being true to your self and all of it, even the parts people do not understand. It means having the insight and courage to follow your path and your life because you must.

So tonight as the sun goes down and the world around me darkens I will sit in the darkness and see with clarity where it is I must go. I love company. When I am finished with being I will light the candles and embrace my life for I am the power and light of love.

Look what I found between the weeds.

Just the other day as Tuck and I were out and about we found this precious nest between the weeds and leaves. The owners of the nest were very near and made sure Tuck and myself did not damage the magical cargo inside. I am convinced the fairies are very much at work pointing me in this new direction. Or better yet the universe is saying pay attention and I am answering you. Fortunately I have listened and carry a small notebook with me now so I made a quick sketch to later work on. I am not sure why I just know I must. I am certainly enjoying it.

A wonderful new nest series of Nature Illustrations and this is the first of the nests. It is 8″ x 6″ in shades of blues browns and leaf greens. While exploring this past weekend I stumbled upon this nest tucked in between the leaves and grass. This is from a quick sketch I did.The illustration is on hot pressed fine art paper. I used graphite and watercolors/gouache and arrives unframed. You can easily mount it to matte board and frame it in a standard frame. The edges of the paper are hand deckle by me.Wouldn’t this look so sweet in a nursery?Ask about shipping internationally?
